April 3, 2009 — As of March 31, Lebanese nationals applying to immigrate to Canada may now select the visa office in Beirut, Lebanon to apply for permanent immigration.

March 29, 2009 — From now on, visitors from Croatia will no longer be required to obtain a temporary resident visa in order to visit Canada.

January 2009 - NEW FEDERAL SKILLED WORKERS PROGRAM - A THREE (3) STEPS CANADA IMMIGRATION PROGRAM

According to the new Citizenship & Immigration Canada Minister’s instructions, in order to qualify under the Skilled workers program, you must pass the following three steps :

STEP 1 : PROOF OF YOUR FULL-TIME WORK OR STUDIES IN CANADA OR PART OF THE RECOGNIZED LIST OF OCCUPATIONS

a. Show that you have an offer of permanent employment from a Canadian employer. This can help improve your chances of having your federal skilled worker application approved.

OR b. you have a valid work permit and have been working in Canada for one year or as an international student,

OR c. you are a skilled worker who has at least one year of experience in one or more of the list of occupations recognized by Citizenship & Immigration Canada.

STEP 2 : YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Show that you have at least one year of continuous full-time paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment, AND
  • You possess work experience in a managerial position, professional position or technical position and skilled trade (as described in the Canadian National Occupational Classification list), AND
  • You must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

STEP 3: EVALUATION OF SKILLED WORKER SELECTION FACTORS

The six selection factors are:

  • your education
  • your abilities in English and/or French, Canada’s two official languages
  • your work experience
  • your age
  • whether you have arranged employment in Canada, and
  • your adaptability.

December 2008Great news for Nafta Professionals - Professionals seeking to work temporarily in Canada under the North American Free Trade Agreement ( NAFTA) can now receive work permits for up to three years, as annouced by the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. Previously, NAFTA workers were required to renew their work permit every 12 months
